West Salem Utility Superintendent Tod Goble has worked for the Village for 30 years.

The Village of West Salem’s Board met at Village Hall on May 19, 2025 at 6:30 PM. Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Mayor Jeffrey Bradham presented a Proclamation honoring Utility Superintendent Tod Goble’s 30 (thirty) years of service to the Village of West Salem.
  • The Board discussed the Mill Pond Park project. Two pickleball courts and a tennis/volleyball court are being constructed. Work is anticipated to be completed this summer.
  • The Board accepted a bid from Mount Carmel Stabilization for $43,016.25 for road repair and maintenance work. Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds will be used to pay for this project.  Work will begin later this summer.
  • The Board approved a TIF payment to the Lumberyard Restaurant for $19,000.00.
  • The Board approved the annual Appropriation Ordinances for the Village. The Ordinances are posted on the Village’s Website and will be filed with the Edwards County Clerk.
  • The Board Discussed a proposed Ordinance regarding how ordinance violations are settled. The proposal suggests that residents should be given 10 (ten) days to resolve a property violation, or the Village will address the issue. The property owner would be responsible for the fine, plus any costs the Village may have incurred addressing the issue. The Board will discuss, and possibly approve the ordinance at next month’s meeting.
  • The Clerk shared that the Annual Water Quality Survey is now available online at http://www.ilrwa.org/CCR/WSalem.pdf
  • The Board approved a Resolution for the Annual West Salem Chowder, which will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Village Square in West Salem.  
  • The Board approved a Resolution for a Summer Food Program which will provide free sack lunches to children on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 AM at the Village Square in West Salem. This program will run from June 2, 2025 through August 8, 2025.
  • The Board was given an update regarding a new Fire Truck. An Invitation to Bid has been published in the Mt. Carmel Register. It has been posted on the Village’s website, LocalPublicNotices.org, and on the bulletin board at Village Hall. It was emailed to five fire truck vendors. Bids are due on Friday June 6, 2025, and will be opened at a public meeting on Monday June 9, 2025 at 10:00 AM. The bids will be reviewed by the Fire Chief, and a recommendation will be made to the Board at next month’s meeting.
