April Board Briefs

The Village of West Salem’s Board met on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 6:30 PM.  Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Mayor Jeffrey Bradham gave a ‘State of the Village’ report highlighting some of the accomplishments of the Village in the past twelve months including:
    • The purchase of a new Fire Truck for the Village.
    • Notification that the Village will receive a $1.2 million EPA grant to replace watermains.
    • Installation of a new Village ‘Welcome Sign’ with landscaping and lights.
    • Completion of the Mill Park Project – installing two pickleball courts, and refurbishing the tennis/volleyball court. The Mill Pond Project was funded in part by a grant.
  • The appointment of Jacob Quillen as a part-time officer for the Village of West Salem.
  • The appointment of Jason Arnold as Chief of the West Salem Fire Department. Long time Department Chief Harvey Fenton will serve the Assistant Chief. Chief Arnold has appointed Evan Thomson as the Department’s Secretary, Dustin Leek as the Department’s Chaplin, and Brandon Bare as the Department’s Training Officer.
  • The re-appointments of Darrin Rice of the Fyie and Rice Law Office as the Village Attorney, Paul Muhs of Charleston Engineering as Village Engineer; Tod Goble as Superintendent of Water/Sewer; and Mark Weber as Chief of Police.  
  • Approval of a bid for $6,750 from Case Excavating and Brush Control to demolish a structure at 105 S. Broadway.
  • The Board heard a presentation from Averi Goodman regarding the Village Courtyard, a new business opening in West Salem at 108 W. South Street.  Ms. Goodman is requesting TIF funding for equipment, landscaping, and other modifications to the building and property.  The Board approved sending the proposal to Moran Economic Development to be formally reviewed, and an economic impact study completed.   
  • The Board approved the purchase of a Rotary Cutter for Public Works from S&N Partners for $10,500.
  • The Board approved a Resolution for the West Salem Chowder which will be held on Saturday August 15,

All Village Board meetings are open to the public. The West Salem Village Board meets at Village Hall which is located at 106 E. South Street, West Salem, IL.
