The Village of West Salem’s Board met on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 6:30 PM. Highlights from the meeting include:
- The Village Board approved the appointment of Dina Reid to the Board.
- West Salem Fire Department Chief Jason Arnold, and Fire Fighter TJ Smerdon, provided the Village Board with an update regarding the Department becoming certified as First Responders. The Board approved the use of the Village’s Fire House as a site for the required First Responder training classes. The classes will begin in January, and will be led by an instructor from Frontier Community College.
- The Board reviewed and discussed the levy proposals for fiscal year 2027-2028. There was consensus that property taxes not be increased. The Village’s Levy Ordinances will be presented at next month’s meeting.
- Nomination petition packets for the April 6, 2027 election are available at Village Hall. The Village will have three trustee seats, as well as the Mayor’s seat on the Spring ballot. Completed nomination packets need to be returned to Village Hall between November 16 and November 23, 2026.
- The Board discussed the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event on the Square. Trees are nearly sold-out, Santa has been confirmed to attend the event scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
