Driving a Neighborhood Vehicle in West Salem

Just a few friendly reminders as you get your neighborhood vehicle ready for the season.  The West Salem Ordinance allows neighborhood vehicles (golf carts) to be driven on local streets – that does not include roads under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation (West Church Street) or under the jurisdiction of Edwards County Highway Department (Route 808).

The Ordinance also requires drivers of neighborhood vehicles to be at least twenty-one (21) years old, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a permit which is issued by the Village.

Permits are available at Village Hall. They cost $30.00, and are valid through April 30, 2027.  Call Village Hall at 618-456-3167 for more information about the Neighborhood Vehicle Permits, or to arrange for a Neighborhood Vehicle inspection. Village Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to Noon, and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
