The Village of West Salem was recently selected to participate in the Oak Savanna Tree Planting Project. The program is a partnership between the Illinois Extension 4-H Foundation, the Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the Illinois Forestry Development Council.
On April 6, 2026 a group of volunteers planted 25 oak trees at “Four Corners Park” which is located on the corners of Albion and Church Streets in West Salem. Three different species of Oaks were planted – White Oaks, Red Oaks, and Bur Oaks were planted at the park. Oaks are a keystone species in Illinois forests. Below are a few photos from the tree planting event.

Thank you Illinois Extension 4-H, Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation Districts (AISWCD), the Illinois Forestry Development Council, the Yankees 4H group, The Village of West Salem’s Public Works, and volunteers for making this investment in our community.
