June Board Briefs

The Village of West Salem’s Board met on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 6:30 PM.  Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Mayor Jeffrey Bradham reminded everyone that the West Salem Freedom Festival is this weekend (June 27-28, 2026). The Volunteer Firemen’s Association is organizing the event which includes a parade, fireworks, car show, and much more. More information about the event can be found on their Facebook Page – “Volunteer Firemans Association of West Salem, Inc.”
  • Trustees were informed that the Village has been awarded a Small Equipment Grant from the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office for $26,000.00. The Grant will be used to purchase personnel protective equipment for the fire fighters.  
  • The Board approved a TIF Redevelopment Agreement with the Village Courtyard, located at 108 W. South Street. The Village Courtyard is a new business in West Salem that offers event space, wedding and event planning services and rentals, as well as an ice cream shop.
  • Dartt & Company, LLC presented the Audits for FY2025, and presented a proposal to conduct the FY2026 Audits. The FY2025 Audit is available on the Village’s website. The Board accepted the Audits for FY2025, and approved their proposal to complete the FY2026 Audit at an estimated cost of $22,000.00.
  • The Board approved Resolution 2026-K, allowing the Board to consider sponsoring non-profit programs/services that align with the Village’s priorities, and directly benefit the residents of West Salem in a non-discriminatory manner.  
  • The Board approved sponsoring the ‘America 250 Parade’ for $1,000.00. The Parade will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 3:00 PM. The Parade route will be along Church Street and around the Square in West Salem.  Retired West Salem Fire Chief Harvey Fenton will be the Grand Marshal of the parade.
  • The Board approved the appointment of Matthew Bare as a seasonal WADI worker. WADI (Wabash Area Development, Incorporated) will be Mr. Bare’s employer, paying his full salary and benefits. He will be assigned to work in the West Salem Public Works Department.
  • The Board approved amending the Revised Code of Ordinances (Ordinance 2026-06 and Ordinance 2026-07) to clarify that dogs are allowed in public parks as long as they are leashed and that owners properly dispose of their dog’s waste.

All Village Board meetings are open to the public. The West Salem Village Board meets at Village Hall which is located at 106 E. South Street, West Salem, IL.
