Did you miss the July Village Board Meeting? Don’t worry, we got you covered. The Village Board met on Monday, July 22, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Here are the Highlights.
Reports and Discussion:
- Mayor Jeffrey Bradham welcomed new Village Treasurer Amy Quillen.
- A Public Hearing is scheduled for Monday, August 5, 2024, regarding the close-out of the Sewer Lagoon Grant. The meeting will be held at Village Hall at 10:00 AM.
- The West Salem Chowder is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024.
- The lead abatement clean-up under the water tower is completed. The most recent test results came back clean. The area is scheduled to be seeded in the next week.
- The Village’s new website is being well received. The most popular page viewed on the site was the Agenda for the Board Meeting.
- Nomination Petition Packets for the April 1, 2025 Consolidated Election will be available by August 20, 2024. Completed packets need to be returned to Village Hall by November 18, 2024.
- The Board is considering requiring building permits for new construction to ensure that fences and other structures are not being built on top of utility easements.
- The County will be repaving Lancaster Road (County Hwy 3) from the ‘Y’ to the County Line. Work is scheduled to begin next week.
Village Board Action:
- Approved changing the hours of Village Hall. Beginning Monday, August 5, 2024, Village Hall will be opened from 8 AM to 4 PM.
- Awarded Andrew Buckle the contract to re-roof the Shelter House on the Square. His bid was $12,000.
- Approved the purchase of the 105 Main Street Property for $100.
- Approved a Resolution to close Church Street the morning of Saturday, August 17, 2024 for a Chowder Day Parade.
- Approved a contract for accounting support services from LOCIS for $4,000. This will complete the set-up of the new software system, as well as training for the new Treasurer and Clerk.
- Approved a salary increase for the Head of Public Works Tod Goble. They thanked Mr. Goble for his good work this past year, citing the fact that no violations were issued when OSHA made a surprise inspection earlier this year.
- Approved a salary increase for Police Chief Mark Weber upon his one-year anniversary with the Village. They thanked Chief Weber for his responsiveness, as well as his collaboration with the Trustees in addressing problem properties.
The next scheduled Village Board Meeting is Monday, August 26, 2024 at 7:00 PM. The Board meets at Village Hall which is located at 106 E. South Street, West Salem, IL. Meetings are open to the public. The Agenda for the August Village Board Meeting will be posted a few days before the meeting.
