January Board Briefs

The Village of West Salem’s Board met at Village Hall on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 6:30 PM. Highlights from the meeting include:

  • The Appointment of Karl August Case to the West Salem Village Board. Trustee Chris Ristvedt resigned from the Village Board last month.
  • The Mayor shared that the West Salem Dollar General is in the process of remodeling. A new restaurant, and a new 24-hour gym will be opening on the Square in West Salem in the next month. Baker Seed Company is planning to reopen under new ownership this Spring.
  • The Board approved amending the Neighborhood Vehicles (golf carts) Ordinance.  The Ordinance clarifies that an annual inspection is required, and that the annual permits expire on April 30th of each year.  The revised Ordinance can be found here.
  • A restaurant that will be opening in West Salem, “The Lumberyard,” requested TIF funds from the Village. The Board voted to send the proposal to the Village’s Economic Development Consultant, Moran Development, for further review and evaluation.
  • The Board authorized $2,465.28 for repair work on the Village’s Police vehicle.  
  • The Village was notified that Kempers Auditors will not be able to perform the Village’s audit later this year. This annual audit is typically completed in the Summer. Finance Chair George Gerlach and Treasurer Ameila Quillen are gathering information on other auditing firms.  They will bring back a recommendation at an upcoming meeting.
