The Village of West Salem’s Board met on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 7:00 pm. Highlights from the meeting include:
Reports & Discussion:
- Mayor Jeffrey Bradham announced a Brush Clean-up Amnesty program for the Village during the month of June. Public Works will pick-up existing brush piles throughout the Village.
- The roof on the Bandstand has been replaced. It was damaged during the March 14, 2024 storm.
- Guisewite Excavating will be demolishing two abandoned houses in the next few weeks, as well as finishing the clean up on the site of the previously demolished building on Main Street. The abandoned houses are located at 108 Albion and 306 Cooper.
- The Volunteer West Salem Firemen Association is planning on purchasing a 1994 fire rescue truck. This truck is ten years newer, and has considerably less miles than the truck it will be replacing. Funds for purchasing the truck came from the numerous fund-raising activities that the Association has conducted over the last several years.
- The Board is looking into financing options for purchasing a brand-new Fire Truck for the Village. A brand-new fire truck is estimated to cost approximately $475,000.00.
Village Board Action:
- The Board approved a Liquor License for the Village Café restaurant. The Village Café is located at 109 North Main Street in West Salem. The license will go into effect on May 31, 2024.
- The Board approved extending the contract with Republic Services for garbage collection services within the Village limits. Fees for trash collection will be increasing 3% annually.
- The Board approved the Annual Appropriation Ordinances for the Village and the Sanitary District of West Salem.
