The Village of West Salem’s Board met at Village Hall on February 24, 2025 at 6:30 PM. Highlights from the meeting include:
- The Board approved improvements to the Ball Park at Centennial Park. The West Salem Athletic Association (WSAA) is planning trimming and removing one or two trees, building a shed, and installing a new batting cage. The WSAA is covering 100% of the costs for these improvements.
- The Village was alerted last month that the Edwards County E-911Board changed the name of some streets in West Salem. Addresses on Friendly Acres and Dorman Trailer Ct are now listed as North Charles Street in their system. The impacted residents, and the United States Postal Service have been notified.
- The Board discussed the TIF Review Report from Moran Economic Development regarding the Lumberyard Restaurant. There was consensus to use TIF Funds to reimburse up to $47,700 for planned improvements to their West Salem Building. The restaurant is planning on renovating their bathrooms to be ADA compliant, upgrading their kitchen, installing a new awning, and purchasing a new HVAC system. A formal agreement will be drafted and voted upon at the next board meeting.
- The Board approved Dartt & Company, LLC of Carmi to complete the Village’s annual Audit.
- The Board decided to pursue an IEPA Water Supply Grant/Loan to replace 2” water mains with 6” water mains. This is a highly competitive grant. The Village applied for this grant last year, but the project did not receive funding.
