The last few weeks have been tough. Last week’s snow which caused area schools and some businesses to close, also played havoc with the Village’s trash service. We have had several calls from unhappy residents about missed trash pick-ups. Please know that we have called Republic Services, the company we contract for trash services, numerous times. We have been assured that trash service should be back to normal next week.
In the meantime, if you would like an additional trash bin, please call Village Hall at 618-456-3167. Households that have one trash bin, may have a second trash bin at no charge. A third trash bin, will be an additional $5.00 per month on your utility bill. We have a limited number of trash bins in stock at Village Hall.
The Village Ordinance states that, “… (trash) Collection containers shall not be placed at the street or curb in excess of forty-eight (48) hours…” We typically recommend placing trash bins out on Wednesday evening, and bringing the bins back from the curb when the trash has been collected. The sixteen inches of snow our area experienced last week was an extraordinary weather event. The Village has not issued tickets for trash bins that have been left out longer than 48 hours over the past two weeks. Please be mindful that when this snow melts, the Ordinance will once again be enforced.
We appreciate your patience, cooperation, and understanding. Please call us at Village Hall if you have any questions, or would like a new trash bin. You can read the Ordinance here:
