The West Salem Chowder is this Saturday. Please be aware that there will be additional traffic and some street closures during this annual celebration.
CHOWDER PARADE
In West Salem, parts of WEST Street, CHURCH Street, MAIN Street, and the streets around the SQUARE will be closed to through traffic from approximately 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025 for the Chowder Parade.
The 2025 Chowder Parade Grand Marshal is Village Trustee George Gerlach. He is a retired veteran and president of First State Bank of West Salem.
The Parade Starts at 9:30 AM. The route begins at JJ’s Truck and Trailer’s parking lot on West Street. The parade will travel south on WEST Street to CHURCH Steet, then head east towards the SQUARE. It will travel around the SQUARE and head north on MAIN Street to SCHOOL Street. At SCHOOL Street the parade will head back to the parking lot at JJ’s Truck and Trailer.
CHOWDER SALES
Chowder sales begin at 10:30 AM. Drive-thru and walk-up sales will be available. Containers are provided. For Drive-thru sales:
1. Turn South off of Church St onto ALBION ST.
2. Follow to WILLIAM ST turn LEFT.
3. Stay on WILLIAM ST all the way to S. MAIN ST
4. Turn LEFT on S. MAIN head up to the square.
5. BULK LINE starts on the south side of the square.
Signs will be posted at the turns. Please remember to be courteous of people’s driveways.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
In addition to West Salem’s famous chowder, there will be hamburgers, porkburgers, hot dogs, homemade potato salad, drinks, and desserts available.
Entertainment at the Square will feature country and rock band Midnight Express from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
